The Learning LogLanguageBuilding "Reading Comprehension Strategies" has been key in the first few months of school. The students have been learning about "Making Connections", "Predicting", & "Activating Schema" and how these strategies help them to become better readers.In Writing, the students have learned about the elements of short stories and how to write a narrative. As a class, we focused on writing "Ghastly Spooky Stories" in the month of October. November has brought us to our Historical Letter Writing as we are learning more about Remembrance Day. Writing is an important skill that we will be developing this year.Weekly Journals and Writing Responses have shown that the students are learning to add more depth and detail to their writing. Well done!MathThe students have completed a unit on Place Value of Whole Number up to 10 000 and the various different ways to express & represent these numbers. Conducting surveys and representing the data in bar graphs has been an essential skill for the students to develop.We are currently working on a unit in Patterning. The students are learning about various patterns in daily life, as well as, number patterns & explaining the rule behind the pattern.ScienceOur focus in Science has been on Habitats and Communities. We have been having a great time learning about the various natural habitats in the world.Social StudiesWe have stepped back in time to learn about knights, kings, and castles! The students have joined "CLAN McLAUGHLIN" and will be pledging their allegiance to the clan with the statement of oath and sharing of their shields by the middle of November. Their shields will be display in the Junior Hallway for everyone to enjoy. |
